"Sitä vaan hengitetään, joskus yksin ja joskus yhdessä" : tapaustutkimus sosiaalisen fobian tuomista haasteista terapeuttisen yhteistyösuhteen muodos…
2014
Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää sosiaalisen fobian vaikutusta terapeuttisen yhteistyösuhteen rakentumiseen yhden kokonaisen terapiaprosessin aikana. Lisäksi tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on kuvata asiakkaan ja terapeutin kokemia yhteistyösuhteeseen liittyviä haasteita sekä tarkastella niitä Bordinin (1979) yhteistyösuhteen teorian valossa. Aineistomme koostuu yhdestä Jyväskylän yliopiston opetus- ja tutkimusklinikalle sosiaalisen fobian vuoksi hakeutuneen asiakkaan koko 54 istuntoa kattavasta terapiaprosessista. Tutkielma on luonteeltaan laadullinen tapaustutkimus, jonka analyysimenetelmänä käytämme tapaustutkimusten ja pienten aineistojen tutkimiseen kehitettyä tulkitsev…
Parental Involvement or Interference? : Rural Teachers’ Perceptions
2021
This research explored rural state school teachers’ perceptions concerning parental involvement in children’s education in a developing country context. The data were collected through thematic interviews with teachers of public schools situated in the rural areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan. The study findings revealed teachers’ frustration and disappointment regarding parental involvement. Teachers believed that susceptible socioeconomic circumstances and adherence to local customs hindered many parents from participating in their children’s education. In line with this, teachers frequently held negative perceptions regarding children’s parents, and these perceptions have the po…

EU heritage diplomacy : entangled external and internal cultural relations
2022
Cultural heritage is an expanding yet contested area of EU policymaking, which has recently been identified as an instrument for EU international cultural relations. In this article, drawing from critical heritage studies and recent scholarship on heritage diplomacy, we see external and internal cultural relations as blurred and deeply entangled in EU heritage policies. Empirically, we focus on the European Heritage Label (EHL), a central EU heritage policy instrument. We explore how heritage practitioners at selected EHL sites and EU heritage policymakers understand and give meanings to international cultural relations and explain the role of cultural heritage in diplomatic endeavours. Our…
Dialogic approach in the EU’s international cultural relations : joint EUNIC-EU delegation projects as heritage diplomacy
2023
Culture and cultural heritage have become central aspects in the European Union’s (EU) foreign policy that increasingly emphasizes dialogue and people-to-people connections as the basis for international cultural relations. This article explores 11 projects jointly facilitated by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and EU Delegations in nine countries located in Europe, Africa, and South America as part of a strategic cooperation between the European Commission, the European External Action Service and EUNIC. We identify five modes of highlighting dialogue as a key element in the EU’s international cultural relations and discuss how the ideas of dialogue, cultural her…
Complexity in project co-creation of knowledge for innovation
2020
The European Union (EU) promotes collaboration across functions and borders in its funded innovation projects, which are seen as complex collaboration to co-create knowledge. This requires the engagement of multiple stakeholders throughout the duration of the project. To probe complexity in EU-funded innovation projects the research question is: How does complexity affect the co-creation of knowledge in innovation projects, according to project participants? The data for this study was collected from project experts in the form of short narratives, using a questionnaire based on the elements of complexity of Mitleton-Kelly (2003). The results indicate that complexity characterises the co-cr…
Conflictual Rebordering: The Russia Policies of Finland and Estonia
2023
This article seeks to analyse the process of conflictual rebordering in the EU’s relations with Russia. The authors single out three major crises that triggered and shaped the process of toughening the border regime and the related transformations of political meaning of the EU-Russia border: the COVID-19 pandemic, the drastic deterioration of Moscow-Brussels relations in the beginning of 2021 and the war in Ukraine that started on 24 February 2022. Correspondingly, the EU’s reactions to each of these critical junctures might be described through the academic concepts of governmentality, normativity and geopolitics. Our aim is to look at the three ensuing models – governmental, normative an…
Parliament and the Press : Forging the United Nations in Wartime Britain, 1939–45
2020
During the Second World War, not only the United States but also Great Britain played a leading role in planning and establishing the United Nations (UN) as a new international organisation to replace the League of Nations. While scholarship on post‐war planning is extensive, relatively little exists on how the planning process was discussed and depicted publicly in Britain. The purpose of this article is to fill such lacunae by examining the two most important domains for public discussion at the time, the press and parliament. It will argue, first, that the League of Nations’ experience – its inability to use collective force and its optimistically democratic structure – overwhelmingly sh…
